Adventures in Dance was created by Michele Rafferty.

"Having started formal dance training at a later age, I found dance technique classes very hard and sometimes quite boring.  Repeating movement over and over again - feeling like I was doing an athletic sport instead of actually dancing, which is what I always liked to do.  I felt that too many teachers were always pushing you to do a movement that you couldn't quite grasp, not allowing you time to feel the movement and dance to the music".

There was (and still is) a big emphasis on learning steps, which is not what dance is all about.  Dance and movement is in us from the day we are born.  However, many dance schools (not all) take the "zap", the "energy" and the "love" of dance right out of their students.  This is especially true for young children, when they are told not to run around and that they must "stay still", listen and not question the movement they must follow.  They are also told to move only one way, which is supposed to be the "correct" and "proper" way.  Children need the freedom to move and express themselves.  Whether you want to dance for exercise, for coordination, for flexibility or just for fun ... or if you intend to be a professional dancer or not ... Adventures in Dance offers different programs for different people and different needs.

"My aim is to bring dance and movement to everyone.  Dance is spontaneous, it doesn't have to be rehearsed.  To dance is to be in the moment"
